When conducting a guided reading group, the readers endeavour to 'solve the text, bringing to bear all their knowledge and skill to work out the words they don't know and to construct meaning from the text' (Winch, Johnston, March, Ljungdahl, & Holliday, 2010, p 122). Guided reading is often incorporated into the upper year levels of primary school as a daily or weekly activity. However, it can often be difficult to see how well each student is comprehending the text because of large circle groups.
